Diwali celebrations are all about vibrant colours, eye-popping fireworks and pretty twinkling lights.

Why not celebrate Diwali with this affordable, easy craft idea suitable for upper KS2 children.


Here’s what you’ll need:

Step 1. Measure an inch inwards from the long edge of the paper and draw a circle around the tea light candle.

Step 2. Line the ruler up against the side of the circle and draw a 30cm line.

Step 3. Draw a rectangular tab on the circle parallel to the line.

Step 4. Cut out the shape as a whole (make sure you don’t cut between the circle and ruler line).

Step 5. Fold the tab inwards to the circle.

Step 6. Glue the tab and stick to the edge of the paper.

Step 7. Glue one of the end edges of the paper and roll it around the circle then secure with the glued end.

Step 8. Make sure the tea light fits into the circle comfortably.

Step 9. Using another piece of paper, fold it in half, then in half again.

Step 10. Draw a petal outline on the edge of the folded paper then cut it out.

Step 11. Hold the petal cut outs together, line up the scissors in the middle and cut an inch line from the base.

Step 12. Once separated out, you should have four identical petal shapes.

Step 13. Glue one half of the petal base (where you cut the inch line) and cross the glued side under the other half to create a domed petal.

Step 14. Glue the underside base of the petal and attach to the inside of the circle tea light holder.

Step 15. Decorate how you wish, you can even add additional smaller petals for a fuller effect.
